In Gerold Bursians Bildern findet die Zerstörung des Bildes im Bild statt. Wir sehen, wie das Bild zerbricht, aufgeschnitten oder aufgerissen wird. Der Karton, auf den der Maler seine Bilder teilweise malt, wird als Trompe-l'oeil im Querschnitt sichtbar. Ein im Bild aufgeschnittenes Bild ist allerdings eine gemalte Tautologie.
